Week 6 Reading Notes

LANs/Computer Networks (wikipedia & youtube)
The only thing in these articles I hadn't heard before was the term Personal Area Network. So often we focus on how big a network is, I never really thought about "micro" networks. If all the various cables and wires running around and under my desk are any indication, I am the master of PANs.

Management of RFID in Libraries (Coyle)
I think this article does a decent job of pointing out the benefits RFIDs can bring to libraries, while also recognizing the drawbacks and limitations. It's a new technology and there are lots of things to work out--it could turn out that some of the obstacles are insurmountable, but we won't know if we don't try to find ways to use it. I'm grateful for people like Coyle who are talking about ways to bring technology into libraries; without them libraries will stagnate and lose relevance for users.
